Started by Franki Chan, Danny United, and Zane Landreth, it’s grown from a monthly party to a-few-times-a-month party to a nationwide tour. What can we look forward to from CYP2 in 2012?

To put it simply: MORE! 2011 was us trying a lot of things out and figuring out exactly what we wanted to do with CYP2, but going into 2012 it’s more of a clear vision and really building on the elements that worked. We discovered that there are a lot of things that make Check Yo Ponytail special and unique from other shows and that is mostly our ability to produce original content. So, you’ll be seeing more of that in bigger and older ways.

In 2012, you can expect a lot more consistency in Los Angeles with shows. We jumped around a lot last year for the reasons above, but now we know what works and you can expect more of it. There will be at least 2 shows a month and various other special events. CYP2 will be heading down to SXSW and WMC for events and we’ll be doing the CYP Tour #2 later in the fall. We may pop up in some unexpected places as well…..

The upcoming Fool’s Gold/ Danny Brown/ Main Attrakionz CYP2 is going to be HUGE! The last Hip-Hop show you guys put together was Yela Wolf and Das Racist last year, so it’s definitely been a while. Any more potential Hip-Hop bookings down the road? How excited are you for 1/24?

Yes! That show is gonna rule! And if this is going up after Saturday, we have Kid Sister on that bill as well! Epic Hip Hop Explosion!!!!

I agree that it’s been way too long since the last Hip Hop show. That’s going to change as there are so many great emerging Hip Hop artists on the scene right now. In 2012, CYP2 will be the place to be to see the latest and greatest!

What’s the process like when you’re booking talent for CYP2? Any specific criteria?

The main 2 rules when booking Check Yo shows is that they need to be artists that we really like and we’re mainly looking for what is the best in new music. Everything tends to fall into place pretty naturally after that.

CYP2 just did a successful nationwide tour; can we expect another in 2012?

Definitely! Tour #2 will be longer and bigger. We’re just getting into figuring out what it is going to be, but I can tell you it will be in the Fall.
